Anna & the Sea debuted with "Lake Como" in January and have since delivered a release per month this spring. Now it is the time for the final chapter.
The EP Out Of The Blue is the sequel to the EP Söräng; with texts dealing with break-ups and saying goodbye, instead of Söräng's clear references to both Anna's hometown and the desire to escape from the Swedish countryside. Musically, Out Of The Blue has a higher tempo and energy compared to the dreamy chords and the youth romance of the first EP.
The release will be celebrated the same night with an intimate show at Trevarefabrikken in Henningsvaer - a hidden gem in Lofoten, Norway. The two pairs of brothers who run this newly established culture scene in an old cod liver oil factory invited Anna & the Sea after they discovered her in the Norwegian indie playlist on Spotify.
Anna & the Sea is the solo project of Anna Lindström. Her debut single “Lake Como” and the sequel “The Sun Is Shining For You” was released earlier this year and got picked up by Swedish national radio and found fans amongst music blogs and magazines such as HYMN, Mystic Sons, Medium, Popmuzik, Popmani, and Indietronica. “Picking Up A Dream” from the debut EP was featured by Spotify in their Indie Highlights.
The songs are written and produced entirely by herself, recorded together with a number of friends and familiar faces from the Swedish music scene like Peter Morén of Peter Bjorn and John, drummer Ola Winkler (Ane Brun, Veronica Maggio), Nils Berg (Håkan Hellström) and Fredrik Hermansson (Ane Brun) playing organ and piano.
“I've always written my own songs but mostly for myself. If anyone would have said to me about a year ago, that in spring 2018 you will release two EP's and collaborate with some of Sweden's best musicians, I wouldn't have thought it was true!” That's why I chose the title Out Of The Blue, as this project came a bit by coincidence, but also to celebrate that I finally managed to take the step out of the dark."
The result is indie-pop - rhythmic, complex and dreamlike all at the same time, with a stripped-down but sublime production that gives room to Anna’s unmistakable vocals that have been compared to both Kate Bush and Lana Del Rey.
Originally from a small town in Sweden, Anna moved to Stockholm, getting involved early in the music scene as a singer and background singer in different bands, as a sound engineer, radio show host, music journalist, and DJ.
Secretly, she has been working on her own material, but it never felt like the right place or time to put everything together, until now.
Anna & the Sea is independent and free from the structures of the music industry and releases her music entirely on her own label Birdtown Records.
